TitleCopy letter from [David Christie] Martin, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House, to Sir Alfred Egerton, Secretary of the Royal Society, Kreuzpital, Chur, Graube, Switzerland
CreatorEgerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist
RecipientMartin; Sir; David Christie (1914-1976); British scientific administrator
Date21 January 1947
DescriptionThanking Egerton for his postcard and is delighted to hear of his good progress. The members of Council were 'deeply sorry' to hear of his accident. He confirms that Professor Hill has deputised in Egerton's absence and that he occupied the Physical Secretary's Chair. He encloses a preliminary draft of the Minutes of the Council Meeting on 16 January 1947. He has noted that Egerton agrees with the Petavel Committee resolutions. They have not yet receieved a reply from C V Raman. He encloses a reply from Rideal regarding the rheology discussion, and Dr Cowley has not yet contacted the Society regarding this. He then discusses the Conference on Information Services, which the Secretaries feel is a topic in which Egerton takes a personal interest, and therefore they should not take any action regarding this before his return. They enclose papers which relate to this subject and invite him to suggest any preliminary or preparatory action which he feels should be taken.
