Title | Copy letter from D M [David Christie Martin], Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society, to Sir Alfred Egerton |
Creator | Martin; Sir; David Christie (1914-1976); British scientific administrator |
Recipient | Egerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist |
Date | 12 March 1947 |
Description | He is glad of Egerton's suggestion to postpone the discussion on rheology until the autumn, and Sir Edward Salisbury also agrees to this. He suggests asking Professor [Eric Keightley] Rideal to organise the discussion. He notes that they have been in touch with Miss Rolfe and are arranging to help her with her typing difficulties. He has written to Sir Clifford Paterson about the proposed Conference on Information Services, and Paterson agrees entirely with Egerton's proposals for the agenda. However, Paterson is of the opinion that they should delay taking formal action until Egerton returns. Martin mentions that Dr Francis of D S I R [Department of Scientific and Industrial Research] has said that, arising out of the American counterpart of C I O S and B I O S, there is a proposal in the United States to establish a Document Centre to represent all the offocial Government Departments in their administration. Official discussions are occurring with the abstracting bodies, such as the American Chemical Society, and in the United Kingdom there are discussions about the extent to which their Government Departments can co-operate. He suggests the possibility of establishing a Centre in the UK to facilitate information exchanges with the US. |
