Title | Copy letter from W V D [William Vallance Douglas] Hodge, 28 Barrow Road, Cambridge, to Sir Alfred Egerton, Secretary of the Royal Society |
Creator | Hodge; Sir; William Vallance Douglas (1903-1975); British mathematician |
Recipient | Egerton; Sir; Alfred Charles Glyn (1886-1959); British chemist |
Date | 31 January 1948 |
Description | Hodge has informed the Council of the London Mathematical Society that he has received a number of enquiries from foreign mathematicians asking for the views of British mathematicians on the proposal to form an International Union for Mathematics. The Council have appointed a committee consisting of Professor Mordell, Temple, and Hodge, to consider this. They have decided that it would be advisable to consult other bodies, and so suggest that it would be helpful if the Royal Society would appoint a member of this committee who can provide perspective from the Royal Society's experiences with other Unions. |
