TitleLetter from George James Symons, 62 Camden Square, London, the Secretaries, the Royal Society
Date25 October 1887
DescriptionIt will take considerable time to work up the observations he has made in accordance with the Society's instructions, and with the aid of the £40 granted from the Donation Fund. Local and travelling expenses were less than he had thought, but the instruments cost more, so that the grant was just right. The excellent instruments have been brought back safely and have been reverified at Kew. He hopes that they will be preserved at the Royal Society so that in another 50 years, the observations may be repeated with the identical instruments. There is much old literature to consult in London and Paris and therefore it will not be until January that he will be able to have a completed report.

G.J. Symons was awarded a grant of £40 from the Royal Society's Donation Fund, in June 1887, 'proposing to re-determine the tempratures of the hot springs in the Pyrenees as laid down by Prof. J.D. Forbes'.
