Description | He encloses a letter from George Jennings Hinde, in reference to work he has been doing on sponge remains of Oamaru. He has prepared his paper and the microscopic drawings are made, by camera, ready for the artist to put upon stone. The 9 octavo plates of illustrations would cost around £40-£50 and that would prevent the paper's publication by any Society. He asks, in view of the value and accuracy of Hinde's work, whether the Royal Society would aid in getting the plates executed. In that case, there would be no difficulty in placing the paper in a learned society journal.
Henry Woodward was awarded a grant of £40 from the Royal Society's Donation Fund in December 1891, 'to assist Dr. Hinde in illustrating his Memoir on sponge remains from the Lower Tertiary strata of Oamaru, New Zealand'. |
