TitleLetter from Augustin Jean Fresnel to Thomas Young, dated at Paris
Date4 September 1825
DescriptionSends 7 copies of two issues of the bulletin de la Société Philomatique from April and May 1822 on double refraction and a short theoretical treatise on the polarisation of light. Both would have formed the basis for Fresnel's proposal for the Encyclopedia Britannica. The treatises were previously sent through the diplomatic post by Lieutenant-Colonel Wright but may never have arrived to England.
Thanks Young and the Royal Society for his election to the Fellowship.
As a postscriptum mentions that his health is improving although he is not fully recovered and hopes that an upcoming trip will fully mend him.
