Title | Letter from Pieter Adrian Bergsma, Batavia [Jakarta, Indonesia] to Edward Sabine |
Date | 16 March 1862 |
Description | Bergsma informs Sabine that the copy of the first volume of observations made at the magnetical and meteorological observatory in Batavia [colonial name of the capital of the Dutch East Indies, now Jakarta, Indonesia], has not reached Sabine, as the steamer Bergsma used to this had a disastrous voyage and the case containing these volumes was lost, possibly in Gibraltar where the vessel spent a month being repaired and part of the cargo was unloaded. Bergsma informs Sabine that he has sent him, the Royal Society and other scientific institutions copies of his volume. Bergsma thanks Sabine for referencing his investigation of the lunar atmospheric tide at [Jakarta] in Sabine’s last anniversary address. |
