| Description | Brooke informs Sabine that he initially received unsatisfactory results from the declination magnet sent by Sabine to the Kew Observatory, however after various modifications has obtained satisfactory results. Brooke has several photographs depicting unusual disturbances and extraordinary observations taken at Greenwich. Recounts having registers for terms days, and taking ordinary, extraordinary and term observations at Greenwich with more than 50 photographs. Describes the method he used to obtain results, and overcoming local disturbances. Brook has been preoccupied with family matters for the last two months, therefore has not been able to devote time to magnetism.
The Astronomer Royal was satisfied with Brooke’s adjustments to his apparatus, and would like to trial the apparatus at the Royal Observatory.
Reference to ‘contemporaneous observations’ made at Kew in July and August. Brooke discusses the scale he has adopted. |
