Description | Rogers is sending Hamilton a copy of a letter by the Governor of Mauritius regarding the establishment of a new meteorological observatory, to be given to the Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. Rogers refers to Sir Henry Barkly’s recommendations, the proposed estimates of Mauritius and the sum of £4,200 needed for the construction which was approved by Mr Peel.
Lord Carnarvon has authorised the Governor to proceed with the building of the observatory, however he does not approve of giving Mr [Charles] Meldrum full authority as suggested by Mr Barkly over purchasing instruments and appointing an assistant. |
