Title | Letter from James Challis, Cambridge to Edward Sabine |
Date | 11 August 1864 |
Description | Sabine recently sent the vice-chancellor [of Cambridge University] copies of his work on terrestrial magnetism to be used as they see fit relative to the Adams Prize, subject area ‘the phenomena and laws of terrestrial and cosmical magnetism’. Challis informs Sabine that the adjudicators have been consulted and come to the decision that the competitors should not be directed to these papers, as they do not know where the competitors may be situations therefore this would no be equal to all.
Challis thanks Sabine for the paper of 26th May. Discussion on Challis’s theoretical research in magnetism [based on mathematical grounds]. |
