| Description | Discussion on the connection between the solar spots and the diurnal range. Ballot has received from the Royal Academy of Amsterdam descriptions and figures of solar sports from 1816 to 1825, and has written to Professor Wolf in Zurich to send him some papers regarding this. Ballot has arranged the daily temperature of Breslau for 70 years, and arranged the declination of the needle at Utrecht from 1849 to 1858.
Ballot informs Sabine that his plan for a magnetic survey for he East Indies will probably go ahead. Ballot asks Sabine to receive Dr [Pieter Adrian] Bergsma, and to write a letter that Ballot could communicate to the Minister of Colonies.
Discussion regarding Ballots work in meteorology. Ballot informs Sabine that Mr van Gogh is no longer the Director of the marine department of meteorological observations. |
