Description | A signed affidavit regarding McKay and Sinclair’s ‘reported conflict with the Esquimaux [sic] of Great Fish River’. McKay and Sinclair make a ‘solemn oath’ that the account published by Dr King regarding an ‘affray’ between them and the Inuit is ‘utterly false’. McKay and Sinclair declare they did not have any hostile encounter with the Inuit while in the service of the arctic land expedition commanded by Captain Back. McKay and Sinclair also state their ‘deceased comrade Peter Taylor’ was never out of sight on the occasion described by Dr King, and was also innocent ‘of any hostile meeting with the Esquimaux [sic]’. |
