Title | Copy letter, JWL [John William Lubbock], RS [Royal Society], to Dr [Peter Mark] Roget |
Creator | Lubbock; Sir John William; third baronet (1803-1865); British astronomer and banker |
Recipient | Roget; Peter Mark (1779-1869); British physician and philologist |
Date | 23 April 1835 |
Description | He encloses a letter just received from Dr [William] Whewell. The only way to meet his wishes is to ask Gyde to set up the paper immediately, and if Council decide not to publish it, Whewell will defray costs. Lubbock would do this, but is unwilling to set a precedent. He will be guided by Roget's opinion but the shortest course would be for Whewell to withdraw the paper. Lubbock would like to see it, if Roget can spare it. He has told Mr Roberton that he must attend to the business of the Royal Society in the morning, not to Mr [Anthony] Panizzi. |
