Description | Updates the situation regarding the Government joining the Bureau international des poids et mesures. Explains that the conditions stated in the letter (11906/84) have been forwarded to the Bureau, who have replied with the following. 1- Acceptance of the reduced arrears of £1787 by the UK and an annual sum of £318, which may change annually within limit and subject to reduction as more nations join. 2- Acceptance that the UK will not need to accept the Metric system, nor joining express an opinion of the desire to do so. Admits that there is no article in the Convention stating the Metric system must be embraced. 3- ThT the Bureau invites the UK to join, and all thtt needs to be done is for the UK to write to J. Banez, the President in Madrid [Spain] and to the Secretary Prof. [Adolph] Hirsch at Neufchatel [France]. |
