Description | Marked 'Private'. 'the fact of all our forces being scattered in Scotland, Cornwall and Norway led to some delay with regard to the joint letter to [Robert Falcon] Scott'. Sir Thomas Holdich did not sign as 23 October is the last day for posting to Scott, and saw 'no sufficient reason to take it out of the President's hands'. Is posting Sir Clements [Markham's] draft to Huggins today. Hopes a composite letter could be suggested, with the essential parts of Huggins letter and the 'harmless' parts of Markham's. 'Whatever happens we are likely to have stormy times within the R.G.S. Council room!!' |
