Title | Letter from Sir William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, to the Secretary [?] |
Creator | Huggins; Sir; William (1824-1910); British astronomer |
Date | 16 September 1903 |
Description | Will meet him at the Royal Society tomorrow at 11am. Huggins assumes he saw the letter which he drew up with [Sir Michael] Foster. He could not sign [Sir Clements] Markham's letter without alterations, as he must not commit the Society to any expression of opinion on the value of the expedition's results. Wrote to [Leonard] Darwin to suggest rewriting his letter and signing it from the Royal Society only, as Markham is in Norway, and Markham rewriting his letter and signing it from the Royal Geographical Society only. The two letters could go in the same envelope, with a note from Darwin explaining this was in consequence of Markham being in Norway. He has not yet received a reply from Darwin. He will bring papers tomorrow and a draft of the letter he intends to sign. |
