Title | Letter from J [John] Brown, Longhurst, Dunmurry, Belfast, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Brown; John (1850-1911); British manufacturer |
Date | 5 March 1900 |
Description | He has not heard from Larmor 'for an age'. He asks for help with a question of vital importance to the wellbeing of a motor car, which concerns the efficiency of the spring wheels. He need not ask Larmor about the deformation and release of india rubber showing heating due to friction. But does a similar effect take place in steel? He would be obliged if Larmor can help. Experimentally he thinks that the heating of steel is small, if not negligible, but he does not wish to begin research if the question has already been settled, which it probably has been. He asks when Larmor will visit. If Larmor should see the Secretary of the Physical Society, he should ask about a criticism that Brown sent on Spier's paper. |
