TitleLetter from Sydney Young, University College, Bristol, to [Philip Thomas] Main
CreatorYoung; Sydney (1857-1937); British chemist
RecipientMain; Philip Thomas (d.1899); British astronomer and chemist
Date11 October 1888
DescriptionHe thinks it unlikely that he and Ramsay will do any more work on Phosphonium chloride for some time. Unless they can be sure of the proper mixture of PH3 and HCl in their tube, it would be a waste of time. They should have criticised [Sidney] Skinner's work when it came out, but they did not see it. Omitting mention of the work would be kindest to Skinner as he believes that Skinner does not deserve a reputation for untrustworthy work.
