TitleLetter from Geo Fras [George Francis] Fitzgerald, 7 Ely Place, Dublin, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorFitzGerald; George Francis (1851-1901); Irish theoretical physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date30 April 1898
DescriptionThe choice between [Cornelius Ambrose] Cardew and [James] Wimshurst is 'a pick of dead horses' and Fitzgreald considers that Gray, Magregor, or [Richard] Threlfall are more distinguished as scientists. He would prefer Threlfall. Fitzgerald is happy that Larmor agrees with him about the Faraday effect. There is no explicitly nvolved gyroscopic effect, but may be involved implicitly in the action of magnetic force on a current. He does not know if it is generally recongnised that [Wilhelm] Holtz invented an electical machine with two parallel glass plates rotating in opposite directions at the same time as the better known Holtz machine, Fitzgerald gives a reference to a picture and description of it.
