TitleLetter from Geo Fras [George Francis] Fitzgerald, Trinity College, Dublin, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorFitzGerald; George Francis (1851-1901); Irish theoretical physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date15 March 1895
DescriptionNow that Larmor has the right result, Fitzgerald thinks his analysis must be correct. He is shy of confirming it, since he should have been able to point out the mistake in Larmor's former analysis. However, this now explains how electromotive and ponderomotive forces are connected, which was obscure in [James Clerk] Maxwell. Fitzgerald still does not like the form of 'T', explaining his reasons. He is getting a pole piece made to try his experiment on the mercury trough in a better way. He would publish with Larmor's permission, amd they should refer to each other's work in print.
