| Title | Letter from Arch [Archibald] Geikie, Haslemere, to [Joseph] Larmor |
| Creator | Geikie; Sir Archibald (1835-1924); British geologist and historian |
| Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
| Date | 29 December 1911 |
| Description | He hopes that Larmor will have a pleasant time in Salcombe. Geikie returned the invitation proof to Larmor at Salcombe, although the holidays will disrupt everything. He has a long complaining letter from [Robert] Harrison and Geikie thinks they should relieve him of any work associated with the Record [of the Royal Society]. Geikie is willing to do the work in his place. He has received a more pleasant communication from the Duke of Northumberland, who offers to give a garden party at Syon House and Geikie has accepted this as an important part of the programme. He agrees with Larmor's letter in 'Nature' about compound terms, and he discusses the history of the word 'gasometer'. He will be at the Royal Society on Wednesday and although Oxford Press want more copy, they have yet to send any proofs. |
