Title | Letter from O J L [Oliver Joseph Lodge], Normanton House, Lake, near Salisbury, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lodge; Sir Oliver Joseph (1851-1940); British physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 1 May 1929 |
Description | At home after seeing Larmor at the Athenaeum he found the two fine volumes. He read them last night and gives comments on the positioning of the index, and Larmor's involved writing style, where his meaning is often obscure. He notes the omissions, including the review of Kelvin's work, and the 'Aether and Matter' book. Lodge was interested to see how much Larmor said about the electron in 1894, before it was properly discovered. He wonders if Larmor has published any other books. Much of the content is beyond Lodge, so he will have to be selective, but Larmor's marginal notes are a great help. Lodge would like to rewrite Larmor's prefaces in 'reputable English'. |
