Title | Letter from Horace Lamb, 6 Wilbraham Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Lamb; Sir Horace (1849-1934); British mathematician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 26 September 1900 |
Description | He has found Larmor's letter on his return from Scotland. The E.B. authorities [Encylopaedia Britannica?] are touching him and he ought to do something for them, but he finds writing to order difficult. He is setting to work for Klein on a similar job. He has a big box of papers from Greenwich waiting for him. He has seen Larmor's address in 'Nature' and read it again in the separate copy Larmor sent to him. He feels that he is an outrider in these things but congratulates Larmor in his performance, which was more than worthy. Lamb thinks that Hobson would make a good President of the London Mathematical Society, but he should finish the book on spherical harmonics which he has long hinted at. |
