| Description | He is not sure that the question of periodic motion in a viscous fluid is worth the elaboration Harrison has spent on it. Viscosity is either insignificant or gives turbulent motion. The author does not go into this and Lamb notes the relevance of it. The work forms good material for a beginner and might be recognised as such. The combination of physical insight and analytical power is not to be expected at such a stage and he expands upon this. He is glad that Darwin agrees with the argument on tidal friction. Lamb though when writing it that he has read something similar in print, but could not find it; perhaps it appears in one of Darwin's papers. |
