Title | Letter from Louis T [Trenchard] More, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, to Joseph Larmor, St John's College, Cambridge, England |
Creator | More; Louis Trenchard (1870-1944); American physicist and biographer |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 7 December 1908 |
Description | The chair of theoretical physics at Columbia University has become vacant with the resignation of Professor [Richard Cockburn] Maclaurin. He asks if Larmor would be willing to write a letter of recommendation, but not if he has any hesitations. Since Cambridge, he has been working on atomic theories, and has his first article in press. He expresses how much talks after class in Cambridge meant to him. He notes the Presidential election and was sorry that Larmor could not meet [Wiliam Howard] Taft, whom he considers an interesting man. |
