Title | Letter from John F P [Frederick Peel] Rawlinson, 5 Crown Office Row, Temple, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Rawlinson; John Frederick Peel (1860-1926); British barrister and politician |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 26 October 1914 |
Description | Thanking Larmor for a note on the New Carlton Club, and giving details of efforts to keep the Club going. He cannot to get to Cambridge for a meeting on the matter, but gives a number of suggestions for the continuation of the institution, ruling out 'admitting ladies' which he thinks would be impossible. He believes there would be no difficulty in raising funds for a reconstituted body, 'as its political influence wd. then be felt throughout the University while the Club on its present lines only touches the comparatively small numbers of men willing to pay for Club privileges'. He would be glad to contribute but the Club must be kept strictly political. His scheme might be put before the meeting by Larmor, but if it were adjourned until Saturday, he would attend.
With some pencil notes by Joseph Larmor. |
