TitleLetter from J H [John Henry] Poynting, 10 Ampton Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorPoynting; John Henry (1852-1914); British physicist
RecipientLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
Date23 December 1904
Description[Alfred James?] Ewart did not rest on any authority except J.J.T.'s [Joseph John Thomson's] but Poynting thought Ewart should see Larmor's letter to remove the difficulties, particularly because Poynting had forgotten the thread of the argument. He outlines his interpretation of Ewart's thinking on osmosis and asks if Ewart's letter answers Larmor's other points. Poynting thinks that Ewart will apply to the Royal Society for grant funding and that such money would be well spent. [Henry Crozier] Plummer of Oxford is investigating Encke's Comet, thinking that its retardation may be due to radiation pressure (Doppler effect).
