Title | Letter from J H [John Henry] Poynting, 10 Ampton Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Poynting; John Henry (1852-1914); British physicist |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 2 April 1908 |
Description | He has spent a good deal of time on Porter's paper ['The osmotic pressure of compressible solutions of any degree of concentration, part II', by Alfred William Porter]. The earlier part is right, but Poynting then notes its shortcomings, including the special case considered and the addendum which appears to be 'ancient'. He thinks that results might be obtained more easily than the author does, but Porter does get more general results than those before and he therefore advises publication. Poynting has kept the paper a long time, but it doesn't get any easier. |
