Title | Letter from G W [George Walter] Prothero, 15 Prospect Place, Harrogate, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Prothero; Sir George Walter (1848-1922); British historian |
Recipient | Larmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist |
Date | 24 August 1914 |
Description | He is obliged to Larmor for his letter and the suggestion for a pamphlet defending their position. He asks Larmor to enquire in the House of Commons if any M.P.s would speak in their constituencies, forming a nucleus of such men in a short time. He agrees with Larmor that miscellaneous anti-German speeches are not wanted, but a few itinerant speakers where local men were not forthcoming would be useful. He asks if Larmor would join a general committee. Prothero was sad to read Marshall's letter not realising the extent of his weakness. He asks Larmor where he can find the [Adolf] Harnack declaration which Larmor mentioned [the 'Manifesto of the Ninety-Three']. |
