| Description | He asks for Larmor's advice on what books and pepers to read in the coming vacation. He has a further year at Cambridge and would like to start some research. Proudman has studied theoretical electricity and hydrodynamics and his interests lie in electron theory. Proudman has read Larmor's 'Aether and Matter' and Lorentz's 'Theory of Electrons' and has received ideas from [John Gaston] Leathem's lectures. He wonders if he should study Relativity and gives a summary of his knowledge and reading to date. On hydrodynamics he has read [Horace] Lamb, but has only an elementary knowledge, obtaining a fuller treatment from Mr. Herman. Proudman concludes by asking for advice on a 'profitable course'. |
