Title | Letter from Robert Were Fox, Falmouth, to Davies Giddy [Gilbert], London |
Date | 2 May 1807 |
Description | Fox presents thanks to Gilbert for information on copper and for supporting Cornish mining interests. Notes the potential of the British Government's proposed gift of 'a million or two' to the Russian Government for shipment of copper to Russia. Fish and oyster shipments are also considered, the latter 'a fine thing for many of the labouring people at St Mawes'. A postscript states that 'the Admiralty will not hesitate to sacrifice the British Mines for the sake of having foreign copper cheaper'. |
