Title | Letter from David Brewster, View Bank, Trinity, Edinburgh, to [John Hall] Gladstone |
Creator | Brewster; Sir David (1781-1868); British natural philosopher and academic administrator |
Recipient | Gladstone; John Hall (1827-1902); British physical chemist |
Date | 30 March 1860 |
Description | Thanking Gladstone for information and the kindness he had shown in the lighthouse controversy. Notes how the matter and the opposition of the Stevensons prevented his election to the Presidency of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He believes he can substantiate every statement in his advertisement especially concerning the dangerous Bell Rock Lighthouse. Does not beleieve that Gladstone appreciates the 'malignity' of the Stevensons. |
