Title | Letter from Anders Celsius, Torne, to Martin Folkes, Vice President of the Royal Society, Crane Court, Fleet Street |
Creator | Celsius; Andreas (1701 - 1744); astronomer and physicist |
Recipient | Folkes; Martin (1690 - 1754); antiquary and natural philosopher |
Date | 3 December 1736 |
Description | Thanks Folkes for his civility during his stay in London. Gives an account of his expedition activities since, including observing the difference in latitude between Torne and Pello using Mr. Graham's instrument. The party had not found any suitable star apart from Draco, with observations made in Pello in September and in Torne in October. Since Draco is close to the eliptical pole, the declinaton changed and Celsius asks how to calculate this monthly change, since he does not have it in his memory from Bradley's Philosophical Transactions. |
