| Description | He takes the opportunity to send copies of two discourses, including one on 'poor Micheli', via Mr. Mallet. Cocchi is grateful to Folkes for proposing him to the Royal Society. Besides his usual employment, he is taken up with the library of [Antonio] Magliabechi where there are great rarities. It is to be opened to the public when the books are in order and he has divided it into 40 classes, each of them alphabetical from the right hand and with the different forms in different shelves. He summarises the classes and notes that there are almost 40,000 volumes. He hopes that Signor Martino and the two young Ladies are well. He takes great pleasure in the Philosophical Transactions and the other books sent by Folkes and asks to be favoured by some letters. Gives his thoughts on the new government, more methodical than the last, but giving no prospect of a better situation: he forsees altering and demolishing the present constitution. Many think of leaving the country. He asks if there is any way in which he could serve Folkes. His wife could now enjoy Folkes's conversation in French. |
