Title | Letter, Richard Arman Gregory, The Manor House, Middleton on Sea, near Bognor Regis, to Robert John Strutt, 4th Baron Rayleigh |
Creator | Gregory; Sir Richard Arman (1864-1952); British writer on science |
Recipient | Strutt; Robert John; fourth Baron Rayleigh (1875-1947); British experimental physicist |
Date | 28 June 1944 |
Description | Gregory's association with Charles Vernon Boys commenced as a student at the Royal College of Science and he encloses his notes recalling that period. Very few students took the parts II and III Physics at that time and therefore few came under Boys's influence. Gibson (now deceased) and Gregory were the only ones working in Boys's laboratory at that time. Boys communicated a paper by them to the Physical Society on the properties of fine glass fibres. Hadley worked with Boys in repeating the Cavendish experiment and Gregory has written to him for his recollections. Gregory thinks that F W Lanchester and Sir Frank Smith should also be approached. |
