DescriptionIncludes orders provided by the Royal Society to Smart, outlining the administrative and scientific tasks he was required to perform in the Antarctic, with some covering correspondence, along with a list of personnel joining the main party of the expedition. An earlier draft copy of part of the orders is also in the file. Also contains some correspondence on salaries for expedition members and an introductory leaflet about the history of the Royal Society. There is also a set of orders relating to Smart handing over control of the expedition to its new leader, J [Joseph] MacDowell and arrangements for his return to England in January 1958.
