| Description | He is acquainted with the talents and attainments of Lieutenant Robertson who produced nothing but a seaman's journal on the first northern voyage, and who approved of the conduct of Captain [John] Ross. Barrow is willing to leave it to Kater to say if those who have done their utmost should be set aside to make room for Robertson. He is not at hand and would likely not welcome being called away from a favourite station to one where difficulties and sacrifices would be necessary. It is out of the question that he should command the second ship [HMS Hecla], as that has gone to Captain [Henry Parkins] Hoppner, the rest to be selected from those who have 'stuck to' [William Edward] Parry. [Henry] Foster will go as lieutenant and surveyor, saving a civilian post. Parry's list is now complete. |
