| Activity | Career: Went to England with his mother and two sisters from the West Indies after the death of his father. Nominated as cadet for Madras by laurence Sullivan, a director of the East India Company (1778); selected by Warren Hastings to accompany a second mission to Bhutan and Tibet as draughtsman and surveyor, though was not allowed in by the court of the Panchen Lama.
