Description | In response to their letter of 14 May, the Treasurer [John Evans] states that they may begin the work. However, if the engine will not be in working order for the Ladies' Conversazione on 6 June, it would be better to defer the repairs until after that date. Rix wonders whether it can in fact wait until the end of the season on 21 June. Rix will present their suggestion regarding flexibility in minor repairs to Evans to prevent delays casued by waiting for his permission.
In relation to the Royal Society Soirée on 6 June, they will want the lantern for three or four demonstrations that evening and a light brought down in one of the library recesses to show a transparency. Rix also asks if they can manage the lantern themselves at ordinary demonstrations, and explains that a previous call to Mr Sanders was because it had been left out of gear and not because he was required to stay for the demonstration. Professor Sanderson is experienced in using the electric lantern and could have done so with Mr James, but Sanders appeared to think he needed to supervise. |
