Title | Copy letter from Arthur William Rucker and Michael Foster, to Sir Clements Robert Markham, Fellow of the Royal Society, President of the Royal Geographical Society |
Date | 3 December 1900 |
Description | Markhams' letter of 27 November was laid before Council and in reply, while Council cannot admit that the resolutions of the Joint Antarctic Committee [JAC] of 20 November adopting regulations as to expenditure on preparations and equipment for the expedition entirely alter the arrangements made by the Councils on 15 May and 2 November 1899, they agree with Markham that these resolutions require the sanction of the Councils of the two Societies.
Quotes a resolution passed by Council that they approve the arrangement proposed by the JAC and its executive Committee by which the Commander of the Expedition is directed to proceed with the preparations and equipment within the limits of the sums under the various headings of the estimates submitted to those Committees, and subject to the control of a Finance Committee, consisting of the Presidents of the two Societies, or their representatives, and the Treasurers of the two Societies. |
