| Description | A letter has arrived from Sir Michael Foster [no enclosure] this morning. As it is urgent, Geikie presumes Huggins will act at once and obtain the sanction of Council afterwards. Foster suggests Geikie as Secretary might replace him, but that is out of the question as he does not have the technical knowledge to which Foster refers. Colonel David Bruce would be an effective representative. If Huggins approves Geikie will approach Bruce, and if he declines will contact Bradford and Martin.
Foster says Geikie should answer in the affirmative to a letter from the Colonial Office, asking if the Royal Society would be willing to allocate £250 towards a Professorship of protozoology at the London Tropical School in connection with the London University. But this is not possible, as the Tropical Diseases Committee had before it the matter of £1000 but decided to not to act on it until Council had decided. The money has not yet been distributed.
The only cabinet minister who has accepted the dinner invitation is Arnold Foster. No ambassador is coming except the Turkish[?] minister. |
