Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to R H Burne, Royal College of Surgeons |
Date | 28 February 1908 |
Description | Harrison has no definitive information to give in regard to the mode and date of transfer of John Evelyn's anatomical preparations from the Royal Society to the College of Surgeons. The probably explanation is that on the occasion of the Royal Society moving to Somerset House in 1780 the collections were presented to the British Museum and some objects handed to other institutions. It is possible that John Hunter himself may have been allowed or asked to them them into hi collection which has since come into the hands of the Royal College but no evidence of this has been found. It is rather curious that Professor Osler, as Fellow made enquiries about these preparations a few years ago. Harrison will have to write and tell him that Burne has them at the museum. |
