I feel I owe you a line in explanation of the summoning of the meeting of the Indian Advisory Committee, after you rather specially urged that it should not be called until after Christmas. I mentioned what you has said to Dr Bradford in discussing the matter with him; but, on enquiry at the Indian Officer, we were informed that they particularly wished foe the opinion of the Committee on the subject of the editorship of the "Fauna of British India" before Christmas; and in these circumstances we felt that there was no help for it but to summon the Committee this week.' |
