As the proposal of the Executive Committee involves a question of the procedure of the Council it can only be settled by Council and will presumably come before them in time for the first meeting after the vacation. If it is Harrison's personal opinion he is after at this stage, then he cannot see that it would make any difference to the Council when they appoint to vacancies on the Governing Body of the [National Physical] Laboratory.
There appears to be no advantage, but some serious serious disadvantages, in making appointments in December to come into operation three months later. Does not think that it would be any serious drawback for the Year Book to overrun the acting list because the chief use of the list in the Year Book, so far as experience goes, is to see the term of years for which members are appointed, and the Laboratory list might be printed separately in the book. |
