| Description | Plates intended for publication in various papers published in volume 126 of Philosophical Transactions. The plates have been removed from their associated manuscripts. Published plates were engraved by the Basire family.
The plates correspond to the following papers:
'Memoranda made during the appearance of the 'Aurora Borealis on the 18th of November, 1835' by Charles C Christie;
'On the anatomical and optical structure of the crystalline lenses of animals. Continued from a former paper (Phil. Trans. 1833, p. 332.)' by David Brewster;
'Geometrical investigations concerning the phenomena of terrestrial magnetism. Second series:— On the number of points at which a magnetic needle can take a position vertical to the Earth's surface' by Thomas Stephens Davies;
'Researches on the tides.—fifth series. On the solar inequality and on the diurnal inequality of the tides at Liverpool' by William Whewell;
'On the brain of the negro [sic], compared with that of the European and the orang-outang' by Friedrich Tiedemann;
'On the respiration of insects' by George Newport;
'On the connexion of the anterior columns of the spinal cord with the cerebellum' by Samuel Solly; and
'On the temperatures and geological relations of certain hot springs, particularly those of the Pyrenees; and on the of verification of thermometers' by James David Forbes. |
