Description | Headed [p.1]: 'Royal Society Club weekly meetings from January 2d, 1817 to June 21 1821 both inclusive'. The volume's main contents are the lists of attendees at dinners (including 'visitors', e.g. guests) at each weekly dated meeting, the numbers totalled; and occasional notes. There is a list of club members after the anniverary meeting of 3 July 1817 [p.16]; and accounts of money disbursed for tavern bills [pp.17-18 and p.39].
Following the meeting of 11 June 1818, there is an extended note by Joseph Smith of Gray's Inn [pp.33-35] on the lack of record-keeping by his immediate predecessors in the years 1818-1828. He notes Edward Sabine's new beginning in record-keeping from 5 June 1828, and Smith's attempts to bring the intervening years' records up-to-date, filling in nine and a half year's of outstanding meeting records, commencing at his election in 1830. |
