The volume's main contents are the lists of attendees at dinners (including 'visitors', e.g. guests) at each weekly dated meeting, the numbers totalled; and occasional notes. There is a list of club members after the anniverary meeting of 3 July 1817 [p.16]; and accounts of money disbursed for tavern bills [pp.17-18 and p.39].
Following the meeting of 11 June 1818, there is an extended note by Joseph Smith of Gray's Inn [pp.33-35] on the lack of record-keeping by his immediate predecessors in the years 1818-1828. He notes Edward Sabine's new beginning in record-keeping from 5 June 1828, and Smith's attempts to bring the intervening years' records up-to-date, filling in nine and a half year's of outstanding meeting records, commencing at his election in 1830. |
