TitleLetter from Geo [George] Henry Richards, Telegraph Construction & Maintenance Company Limited, Offices 38 Old Broad St., London, to [John Gwyn] Jeffreys
CreatorRichards; Sir George Henry (1820-1896); British naval officer and hydrographer
RecipientJeffreys; John Gwyn (1809-1885); British lawyer and conchologist
Date28 January 1881
DescriptionHe encloses the list of diners and notes that his tin box is becoming full. He asks if Jeffreys has room in his box for bills, etc. He thinks that [Warren] De la Rue would make an excellent Treasurer [of the Royal Society Club]. He is a regular attendee and has been relieved of much pressure of business. They can talk about it when they meet. Richards' residence out of town and general unfitness make him inclined to retire in De la Rue's favour. 'A man with a good stomach ought to be a Treasurer'.
