Title | Paper, 'Account of a comet' by Wm [William] Herschel |
Date | [1781] |
Description | Herschel gives his account of a new comet first observed on 13 March 1781 in the vicinity of H Geminorum, and provides data from his observations of the comet through March and April 1781. Includes four pages of figures showing the movement of the comet over time. This comet had previously been observed by the Astronomer Royal [Nevil Maskelyne], and Herschel agreed with the Society that in the future, he would use his telecope only for purposes for which it is 'best calculated', those purposes being viewing objects and measuring small angles.
