| Description | After referring to the drawings to his paper on fibre, published in the Philosophical Transactions for 1842 (see PT/26/5), and the opinions entertained by physiologists regarding the views advanced in the paper regarding the original composition of organic fibre, Barry states that these views have been fully confirmed, and in proof of this refers to a paper entitled 'De cellula vegetabili fibrillis tenuissimis contexta' (Lundae, 1852), by [Jacob Georg] Agardh.

Whilst the Royal Society declined to publish this paper in full, an abstract of the paper was published in volume 6 of Abstracts of the Papers Printed in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London [later Proceedings of the Royal Society] as 'On animal and vegetable fibre as originally composed of twin spiral filaments, in which every other structure has its origin; a note showing the confirmation by Agardh, in 1852, of observations recorded in the Philosophical Transactions for 1842'. |
