Description | Bowerbank writes on the 'sarcodous system' of Spongiidae, which may be described as 'the homologue of the mucous lining of the stomach and intestines of the higher tribes of animals, and probably as the equivalent of the nervous system also' (see PT/66/9 or volume 11 of the Proceedings of the Royal Society).
Marked on front in red ink as 'Archives' and 'Unpublished portion of Dr Bowerbank's paper'. The paper is written on the back of several copies of printed invitations to the Palaontographical Society's 1861 Annual General Meeting.
